High praise for the World Cup comeback at Saalbach Hinterglemm: "We showed the world what we are made of"
|After a 13 year interval Saalbach Hinterglemm celebrated a successful comeback in the "Audi FIS Ski World Cup". Some 22,000 spectators on 21 / 22nd February 2015 experienced two exceptional men's speed races (Downhill / Super G) which on both days took place in an electrifying atmosphere. The organising committee consisting of: President Peter Mitterer, Secretary General Peter Hartl, Race Director Bartl Gensbichler and Town Mayor Alois Hasenauer were thrilled with the praise coming directly from athletes and coaches alike.
Last but not least, the aim was to demonstrate that Saalbach Hinterglemm is more than ready to re-enter the World Cup stage and is hoping to win the internal bid against St Anton at the Austrian Ski Federation President Conference on 16th April 2015 to be put forward as Austria's candidate for the Alpine Skiing World Championships in 2021 or 2023.
"It was a fantastic festival where much praise was received from the likes of Archbishop Franz Lackner and Salzburg's leading politicians Wilfried Haslauer, Christian Stöckl and Brigitta Pallauf to Peter Oberauer, the Race Director of the Hahnenkamm race in Kitzbühel. This praise holds great significance. Along with the Austrian Ski Federation we have been preparing for the event since August of last year. I am proud not only of our Austrian athletes, but also the top motivated youngsters in our Ski Club" said President, Peter Mitterer.
"Yes, we have the shown the world of skiing what we are capable of. We have experienced two great speed races and in addition ignited a giant fire for ski sport across the county of Salzburg" said Race Director Bartl Gensbichler.
|"It was a really easy going weekend and I think that we can all be satisfied. The hard work and preparation has paid off and been rewarded by the audience said General Secretary Peter Hartl. A highlight was already the TV images of the first training run that took place on Thursday in bright sunshine. Hartl was also fascinated by the enthusiasm of the fans - at the races as well as the award ceremonies and bib draws. "A great atmosphere prevailed on the whole mountain. We would love to be able to organise such an event permanently in the Glemmtal and a World Cup event would of course be something great for Saalbach Hinterglemm. "
The organising committee are proud of how elaborate concepts were merged – such as piste preparation, public viewing, supporting programme and traffic control. "We are very proud to have pulled it all together - and that there have been no incidents. The event has contributed much towards a positive community spirit in the village. Even the normally most notorious complainers that I met were delighted. Naturally, I am very pleased with the sporting results" said Town Mayor Alois Hasenauer.
With a beaming smile the Austrian Ski Federation President, Peter Schröcksnadel commented at the finish line of the Super G: "Two great spectacular races and great Austrian success, what more could you want?"
Fact is: The successful World Cup comeback is the best calling card for the World Cup bid of Saalbach Hinterglemm!
